PIONEERING A NEW FORESTRY APPROACH
Most people don't just measure the value of a forest in cubic metres of timber. Forests filter freshwater for salmon and people, provide sustenance for culture, offer us recreational opportunities, sequester carbon from the atmosphere and sustain rich biodiversity and wildlife. That's the true value of a forest.
Forests are also about cutting trees for timber, but practiced in a way that protects ecosystems and Aboriginal rights and title, maximizes value-added manufacturing and shares benefits fairly with local communities.
Ecotrust Canada is a leader in promoting ecosystem-based management and FSC certification on the BC coast, and has a team of Registered Professional Foresters on staff ready to make a difference. Based on 15 years of engagement in forestry, we are designing an new business approaches for how communities can better profit from the inherent wealth of our coastal rainforests. For more information about how to engage with our forestry work or retain our services, contact Neil Hughes, RPF.
