Clayoquot Focus
In 1995, Ecotrust Canada published its first report, Inviting the Salmon Home, with the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation on restoring sockeye salmon to the Kennedy Lake in Clayoquot Sound. Since then, our work among West Coast communities has grown to touch almost every sector—tourism, forestry, fisheries, shellfish farming, small business finance, energy, economic development, planning.
In 2008, we are excited to announce new strategic investments in Clayoquot Sound. We opened a new harbour-front office in a former fish plant, hired on new staff and launched the Clayoquot Forest Communities Program in partnership with the Nuu-chah-nulth Central Region Management Board.
Brenda Reid-Kuecks heads our local Clayoquot program. She recently won a BC Community Achievement Award for “her ability to bring together diverse stakeholders to develop sustainable business initiatives.” Our program couldn’t be in better hands.
